Summer Fun at the PHILO Library

The Philo Library is planning on having a ball during their Summer Programs. We want all young readers to be a sport and read, read, read! We have something for everyone and we hope you’ll take advantage of us.

Miss Jill’s Preschool Programs will meet on Tuesdays, beginning June 5 at 10:00 a.m. Catch a Good Book is Miss Jill’s theme and we’re sure your youngsters will catch more than a good book, they’ll catch stories and fun. The programs are designed for 3 – 5 year olds, but children of all ages are welcome to attend. Bring your pre-schooler to the Library for stories, snacks and fun! Dates are June 5, 12, 19 and 26.

The Summer Reading Program for elementary age and up begins on Monday, June 4, at 1:00 p.m. Be a Good Sport, Read! is our theme. We’ll be talking about various sports and games, the players and some older games that your grandparents might have played. The main purpose of this program is two-fold, to read and have fun doing it! To help encourage reading, there will be prizes and ice cream certificates, compliments of the Philo Country Store. Our thanks to Dennis and the Philo Country Store for continued support of our Reading Program at the Philo Library. Dates are June 4, 11, 18, 25 with July 2 the grand finale with water sports and prizes. No advance registration is required for this program.

Crafts ‘n Stuff will be held at 1:00 on Wednesdays. Participants will explore crafts and the fun and creativity involved in making things. Space is limited to 20, and completion of kindergarten is a requirement. So please call and reserve a spot for your youngster. (684-2896). If more than 20 are interested, we will take names for a waiting list in case someone changes his/her mind. We try to accommodate as many as possible, but space and materials are limited. If someone shows up who is not registered, they will be allowed to participate ONLY if there is a vacancy. Dates for Crafts ‘n Stuff are June 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Betty the Extension Lady returns on June 7 at 3:30 p.m. She will be serving up yummy treats that the youngsters can make at home. These treats are not only yummy but are nutritious, so come and enjoy Kids Cookin’ on June 7, 14, 21 and 28.

July will be a quiet month at the Library, but youngsters can still earn coupons good for ice cream at the Philo Country Store until school starts in August. So, keep reading and bring your reading log to the Library to claim your coupons!

Game On, Thursdays in August. Thursday, August 2, 9, and 16 at 3:30 will be Game Day at the Philo Library. These are board games designed for ages 7 and up. Come and enjoy an hour of fun and games – bring your friends and neighbors, the more we have the more fun.

HCE Sponsored Coffee Hour will continue to meet at 10:00 a.m. each Thursday morning at the Philo Library. Coffee, refreshments and a visit with friends and neighbors is what it’s all about.

Philo Library Book Club continues to meet the last Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. This group is interested in reading, current events and the community, and always features delicious treats that Don brings along.
